NEW SOUTH WALES

Welcome to the centre of Australia. Home of the shining jewel of Sydney and a magnificent collection of regional attractions.

Travel guides have run out of platitudes for the stunning harbour-side spectacle that is Sydney. But don't worry, you'll think up something new to wax lyrical about. If you can't, then 4 million happy Sydney-siders will help you out. If you can drag yourself away, you'll find a pretty remarkable place called Australia just beyond the suburbs.

Follow the white line up the coast towards Byron Bay and beyond, or be one of the adventurous minority that head inland to find bliss and amazing scenery in the celebrated "outback".

NORTHERN TERRITORY

Unique and different. Two words that perfectly describe the vast and diverse Northern Territory.

Where else would a symphony orchestra play the classics in the same ancient waterways where crocodiles roam? Where else would you find a land bigger than Texas inhabited by fewer than 200,000 people? Where else could you experience a culture tens of thousands of years old, still vibrant and vital?

Transportation to the Territory is as simple as booking a ticket - on a plane, coach or train or self-driving. Interstate flight's land in Darwin, Alice Springs and Ayers Rock; and a number of international airlines operate regular services from the capital Darwin

An excellent network of sealed roads takes visitors to 95% of the Northern Territory's most visited spots - or four wheel drives can be hired at most centres.

QUEENSLAND

Chances are, if you get to Australia, you will go to Queensland. Whether its the Great Barrier Reef and its diving, Rainforest exploring or the attractions of the backpacker Mecca's of Cairns, Hervey Bay and Airlie Beach, Queensland has something for everyone (and pretty good weather to boot).

SOUTH AUSTRALIA

South Australia, the spiritual home of Nomads (we first started here in 1994) and a focus for the arts, festivals, food and wine. The driest state in the driest continent, South Australia is easily accessible from the west and east coasts and is the perfect stopover on your northward trek to Alice Springs, Darwin and beyond.

Adelaide is the capital, while a spectacular array of natural attractions are accessible with local tour operators. Incidentally, Adelaide has been blessed with a Mediterranean climate, making it the perfect environment for food, wine and frivolity. Enjoy!

TASMANIA

Tasmania stakes a worthy claim to the title of the "Natural State" and as a great backpacker destination.

In one unique, compact, and beautiful island, there's a world of experiences waiting to thrill and fascinate the independent traveller. It's the incredible scenery that most visitors will remember. Jagged, snow-capped mountain peaks, dense rainforest, gentle farmlands, wild and remote sandy beaches fringed by bushland, and meandering rivers to explore.

Hobart, Tasmania's compact capital, is situated under the protective shadows of Mt Wellington on the banks of the Derwent River, and outstanding wilderness, friendly locals and abundant native animals can be found in all directions.

VICTORIA

Victoria lies in the south-eastern corner of the continent boasting mountainous areas in the north-east, a rugged and wonderful southern coastline, and semi-desert areas in the north-west.

Her capital city Melbourne is the self-proclaimed cultural centre of Australia and is known for the good things in life - fashion, food, entertainment and sport. Within an hour of the capital, you reach the Yarra Valley in the east or the Mornington Peninsula to the south-west where excellent wines and food are waiting for you. Head south to find the start of the Great Ocean Road, home to Australia's most dramatic coastal scenery

Major events to squeeze into your hectic schedule include the Formula One Grand Prix, the Australian Tennis Open and the Motorcycle Grand Prix.

WESTERN AUSTRALIA

Western Australia is Australia's largest state, roughly the same size as Western Europe and with cattle stations (ranches) the size of England! Its charm lies with its friendly people, unspoilt beauty and breathtaking scenic grandeur.

Perth, the beautiful capital city lies in the South West, and is home to over 80kms of pure white sand beaches washed by the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, a vibrant nightlife and pub scene, world class entertainment and great dining, no matter what your budget.

Head south to discover the Margaret River region complete with stunning coastline, great surf and great food and wine. Head inland for the outback and the W.A. Goldfields, or trek north to the Pinnacles and Monkey Mia, then further north again to the celebrated Kimberley and Bungle Bungles.
